In Escalante, stop by all the local shops, but the pizza was heaven at Escalante Outfitters. In Boulder we liked eating at the food truck for breakfast or lunch, Burr Trail, and fancy dinner at Hells Back Bone Grill. It’s a full experience, you learn more just to canyoneer - also safety in the wildness, they feed you, and entertain you and make you feel so safe and comfortable. Kids and up to older adults love this experience. How long is Hell's Backbone Road The road, part of the Forest Road 153, is 61km (38 mile) long, running from Boulder to Escalante, in Garfield County. The best part of our time in Escalante was the Canyoneering adventure with Excursions of Escalante, woth every penny Canyon view from the Hogback - UT 12, Boulder, Utah The area of Hells Backbone Road and bridge was called the Poison Road, since falling over an 800. Hell's Backbone Road is the name of a very scenic unpaved road in Garfield County, in southern Utah, USA. The drive to Boulder gives Zion feels by the amazing bridge. This rock garden is fantastic with beautiful natural rock formations to explore and hike through. We highly recommend walking as far as you’d like along the creek at Upper Box Canyon (stunning and where most of my pictures are from). This is a 15 mile dirt road access to Devils Garden insides of the National Monument. So this is a primative place to camp, but the only place in the Escalante area in higher elevation with cell service. Escalante is 1 hour from this spot and Boulder is about an hour too. My hubby could not drone here, for it was too windy this day, but I am grateful for TJackSurvival for his great drone. It is a mountain road on the mainland west coast of Mexico. ![]() There are multiple campgrounds that are around $10/night, but none of them have AT&T service like this free spot. Between Highway 12 and Highway 24, Southern Utah has some of the most beautiful drives Ive ever had the joy of making. Espinazo del Diablo is a famous route in Mexico which in English is called The devils backbone.
